Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a fascinating area of study that has relevance to most situations you will find yourself in. Some to a higher degree than others. NLP deals directly with how the mind works through the senses.
Using NLP, when you understand how to influence the mind (through the senses) you gain extraordinary control over your emotions, your capacity to learn, your ability to perform and so much more. These skills are easy to learn and implement.
Along with this aspect of the mind, NLP also has extremely sophisticated language skills. For the most part these were 'modeled' from Milton Erickson (the father of modern day hypnosis). Gone are the days when you may have struggled to communicate well.
There are many other applications and processes within NLP: Rapport, Eye Patterns, Timeline, NLP Frames, Anchoring, Modeling and so much more. The applications of NLP virtually cover the realm of human experience. Rather than asking the question 'What can you do with NLP?' a more appropriate one might be 'How can NLP assist me in this situation?' - because it probably can.
As you study this modality you begin to realize that most peoples problems exist with 'how they process' rather than with the content they are dealing with. Using NLP it is possible to determine how a person is using their senses (mind) and literally how they are thinking in a given situation. From here it is possible to apply NLP in assisting them to become more efficient and effective. To do this, every gesture, movement of the eyes, tonal shift, phrase becomes very important. There is no end to how elegant and refined your NLP skills can become.
Imagine being able to easily change a life long habit, or inefficient pattern of behaviour quickly and for the rest of your life. NLP provides powerful ways of doing this.
With NLP as you ascertain a persons process (including your own) it is possible to design a technique to improve this process. This gets to the essence of NLP. You are better off understanding the principles of NLP so you can use them in creative ways rather than just learn and rely on pre-formatted techniques designed for someone else. To do this requires an understanding of the nuances and subtleties involved with NLP and a capacity to adapt in the instant.
Unfortunately, many people don't take their NLP skills beyond a first level of using these pre-formatted techniques which by the way are still very effective but not what your skill could be.
If you are going to learn NLP make sure you take it to a level of artform - it will serve you well for the rest of your life.
